The Reindeer Restaurant, Inn and Public House
A hidden secret of Newmarket hotels
In the village of Saxon Street a few miles south of Newmarket, off the B1061 or B1063, The Reindeer Inn is a handsome country hostelry with a fine reputation for the quality of its cooking. Built in the middle of the 19th century, it reputedly takes its name from the deer that roamed the orchard that once stood here.
Totally refurbished and re-launched in 2004, it has quickly established itself as both a popular village local and a destination dining pub. Behind the creeper-covered façade the public areas are in fine traditional style, and when the sun shines the lovely leafy garden really comes into its own. It's very much a place for all the family, and children are guaranteed to have a great time in the play area. The choice for diners runs from a lunch and dinner menus, daily specials, Sunday roasts and children's meals. Sunday lunch brings a choice of traditionally prepared home cooked roasted meats and vegetarian dishes with fresh seasonal vegetables.
The Reindeer Inn caters for all guests and welcomes diners and drinkers with well-kept ales and a well-chosen list of Old World and New World wines to complement the excellent food or for a relaxing drink away from the hustle and bustle of life. For guests staying overnight The Reindeer Inn has four superior en suite bedrooms.
The proximity of Newmarket makes The Reindeer Inn an ideal base for race goers and the area around the inn has many country lanes and picturesque villages to explore. The historic city of Cambridge is within easy reach at just over 16 mile away, placing The Reindeer Inn in an idyllic location for guests travelling through the area seeking refreshment and accommodation or guests looking for a superior dining and social experience in this premier destination venue.
